Calendar Input 2020/2021
At its Regular Public Meeting on September 11, 2019, the Board of Education presented the following Notice of Motion:
The Board of Education
adopta Local School Calendar for the 2020/2021 school year that reduces the number of instructional days by approximately 25 to 30 resulting in a four-day school week. The instructional time from these days will be added to the remaining days of instruction.
The resulting saving will allow the district to preserve programs and options for our students. The motion will be tabled at the Regular Public Board meeting on March 13, 2020.
The notice of motion will be added to the website along with an online comment form to allow people to share their input regarding the 4-day instructional week.
Proposed Calendar 2020/2021
The typical school year is bookended to begin the Tuesday after Labour Day and end the last Friday in June. Next year, these book ends land in a manner resulting in an insufficient number of instructional days for the district to implement a two-week Spring Break. In order to accommodate a two-week Spring Break, the proposed 2020-2021 calendar includes one 5-day instructional week per semester and the extension of the school year to June 30. This allows for 156 instructional days and meets the minimum required under the School Calendar Regulation.
