Every Child Matters!

Quentin Harris "Never Let Go"

Students and staff in Gulf Islands School District will be wearing their orange shirts today, Thursday, September 2th, as a visibly loud and proud statement that "Every Child Matters."

On this last day of classes before the official statutory holiday on Monday, September 30th, and in recognition of our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, schools across the district will be planning commemorative events and assemblies, the largest, perhaps, taking place at Gulf Islands Secondary School. Set to follow an all-school assembly at 10:00 am, students and staff have organized a march through Ganges to raise awareness of the significance of the day and to honour the healing journey of Residential School Survivors and their families.

Wearing our orange shirts serves to remind us all that every child is important. Let us recognize this important day together in a good way and uplift our Indigenous communities as we continue to work collectively to ensure the success and well-being of each and every student.
