When am I paid for a prep block at the high school and when am I not?
If a prep block is a part of a teachers assignment which you are assigned to then you are paid for it.
How is seniority accrued as a TOC?
No seniority is accrued as a TOC until entering a continuing assignment. After that, TOC days count toward seniority date.
I am a TOC now in the District, but moved from another District where I had many years of seniority am I entitled to this?
Upon securing a continuing contract in our District you can have up to ten years of previous service from another District ported, as well as, up to sixty days of sick time. You are accountable for applying for this yourself; however, a form is available from our office to send to the former District.
Can I go on Employment Insurance for the summer?
You can apply if you have worked approximately 600 hours in the last 52 weeks. Whether or not you are approved is not up to the District.
How much do benefits cost for a TOC?
TOC’s are paid in lieu of benefits at 3% as they are not provided by the District
I have moved here from another province and have been told to take additional courses in order to obtain a regular teaching certificate. Is this a standard procedure?
Yes, qualification for teaching in this province is determined by the BC College of Teachers
