Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
On January 21, this was witnessed first hand. Forty Biology 12 students had a unique opportunity to teach eighty Grade 4 & 5’s from the on-island elementary schools by sharing their final assessment projects in a science fair format. It was incredible to witness the power of learning that morning with the grade 12’s teaching about one human system or organ to the future graduates of GISS.
The grade fours and fives were tasked with grading the Biology 12 students on their final projects based on communication, organization and knowledge. This project gave the graduating students an opportunity to solidify their semester knowledge in their presentation but also the opportunity for the educators to work together setting up this complex project over a three month period time.
This was a unique enriched learning experience for all involved and will continue in years to come.
